" Oprah Favorite Things " is an annual segment that appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show from the 1990s to 2008 and 2010, as well as on Rachael Ray in the year 2017. In this segment, which airs during Thanksgiving week and is inspired by the "My Favorite Things" song from Sound Sound Music, Oprah Winfrey shares the product with her listeners that she feels so valuable or that will be a great gift. In addition, the audiences present during the recording of the episode received items from that year's list for free.
This term is also sometimes used to describe similar features in O, The Oprah Magazine ; while it has officially been named "The O List" in the past, it recently shared the name "Oprah Favorite Things". Both features are often coordinated.

2008
Winfrey, in addition to a regular event, held the episode of "Oprah Favorites for Summer" in May 2008, apparently contrary to his wishes and on the orders of the production staff.
The regular show aired November 26, 2008, one day before Thanksgiving; However, it does not follow the usual format of luxury gifts. On the contrary, due to the economic difficulties of the nation (Winfrey says that he can not with a good conscience give a luxurious gift in times of economic hardship like that), this year's episode will be titled "How to Have the Hardest Vacation Ever!" (Described as Oprah's Favorite Things... with a twist! ) All the prizes are worth "nothing" and emphasize do-it-yourself work. Due to the personal nature of many of these gifts, this is the first year the audience does not receive many actual gifts, even though they receive books and albums.
Gift ideas, many submitted by audiences, including:
- A thank-you box, filled with thank-you notes from various people
- The compilation album "Oprah Holiday Hits" (given for free on the show's website)
- The treasure box contains souvenirs
- Hot chocolate cone
- Regifts (a.k.a. "swap parties"), redeem your own undesirable secondhand items for other people's belongings you're likely to use
- A gift basket that includes fruits and vegetables from your own garden
- While with your loved ones
- The Story of Edgar Sawtelle , a book by David Wroblewski
For additional prize ideas, viewers are directed to "The O List" in O edition, The Oprah Magazine December 2008 edition. This list consists of items that cost under $ 100.
2009
The Huffington Post recalled in November 2009 that, for the first time in years, there would be no Oprah Favorite episodes. This turned out to be true; there is no explicit reason given for cancellation, even though the recession that had taken place years earlier and which had served as a boost to the low-budget Favorites thing of the year was still ongoing at the time. However, Oprah held a raffle in December 2009 which rewards the collection of Favorite Collections. The lottery winners are announced and posted on the Oprah website.

Controversy and criticism
Once displayed in the Oprah Favorite Things segment, businesses typically experience a large increase in their website traffic and in visits to their stores. For small businesses with limited resources and small staff, customer generated drives can cause businesses to become overwhelmed and unable to meet customer demand. According to Scott Schroeder, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Garrett Popcorn Shops, shown in the episode produced more than 100,000 visits to the website in the afternoon the episode aired and sales increased in December by more than 100%. This causes the business to change from "making popcorn eight hours a day to 24 hours a day."
The episodes also met with controversy when unseeded businesses on the episode made claims that they existed. According to insiders, this is one of the reasons the format was changed for the 2006 season.
Website The A.V. Club mocks the uselessness and blandness of the Oprah 2007 list by posting a feature called 'Oprah Favorite Thing or Symptoms of Clinical Depression? "The 2008 decision to use cheap gifts drew jokes from Jimmy Kimmel Live !, including a mash-up featuring Winfrey who was supposed to hand out tacks, to anxious audience.
Further criticism and satire are directed at the reactions of people in the audience, which usually range from cheering and screaming to hysterical crying from men and women. This memorable parody is featured in the Saturday Night Live drama, in which the audience tore apart the studio in anticipation of their free hustle and bustle they will get. Winfrey himself admitted pleased with some of the audience's reaction, having made a number of fun from them in the behind-the-scenes series that aired on Oprah Winfrey Network.
