Histori
Wings of Hope was founded by four businessmen from St. Louis, Mo., who has heard of a young woman, Sister Michael Therese Ryan, who is a pilot of the tiny Piper PA-18 Super Cub covered in cloth in the Turkana Desert. region of Kenya. Its founders are William Edwards (St. Louis businessman), Joseph Fabick (Fabick Tractor Company), Paul Rodgers (VP, Ozark Air Lines), and George Haddaway (famous aviation advocate and magazine publisher Flight). The story of Sister Ryan using the plane to bring relief for the poor famine victims in vast and remote areas of Kenya inspired the men to raise money for a stronger, all-metal plane to further aid the effort. After the founders raised the necessary capital for the new Cessna U206, legendary aviator Max Conrad piloted the plane on an epic journey across the Atlantic from St. Louis to Nairobi, Kenya. The story is well publicized and brings a great response from the international community - from people who seek help and need airplanes, to those who want to help by offering their time, money and services. From an initial effort of four men on a mission to help those in need, Wings of Hope has grown into a global non-profit aviation working in 47 countries since its birth in 1962.

Medical Assistance and Air Transport Program
Wings of Hope established the Medical and Air Transportation (MAT) Program in 2003 to serve the very real need for access to health care in the United States. While the US is home to the world's best physicians and state-of-the-art healthcare facilities, many families have no way of reaching these rescue specialists when a medical crisis threatens the lives of their children and loved ones. The MAT program is the only free medical air transport service in the US with specially equipped aircraft that can accommodate stretchers, wheelchairs and medical equipment. By 2015, the MAT Program provides 929 patient flights, accommodating patients and nurses.
