Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals Inc. , branded Jefferson Health , is a regional health system whose flagship hospital is Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Center City, Philadelphia. Hospital health system serves as an educational hospital at Thomas Jefferson University. Other hospitals in the system include Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience, Methodist Hospital in South Philadelphia, Abington Memorial Hospital in northern Abington suburbs, three hospitals and Aria Health clinics in Northeast Philadelphia and Lower Bucks County, and have signed a Definitive Agreement with facilities Kennedy Health in southern New Jersey includes hospitals in Washington Township and Cherry Hill.

Formed in 1825 as Jefferson Medical College Hospital, a predecessor of Jefferson Medical College Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital serves patients in Philadelphia and surrounding communities in the Delaware Valley and southern New Jersey.
Thomas Jefferson University Hospital system has 957 licensed acute care beds. Services are provided in five locations - major hospital facilities and Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience, both at Center City Philadelphia; Methodist Hospital in South Philadelphia; Jefferson at Navy Yard, just past the sports complex; and Jefferson-Voorhees in South Jersey.
Previously a division of Thomas Jefferson University, the Hospital was separated from the University to become a founding member of Jefferson's Health system in 1995. The hospital joined the Methodist Hospital as the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital division in 1996. - In 1826, Franklin Bache, a professor of chemistry at Thomas Jefferson University, became the first researcher in the United States to conduct an organized research using acupuncture therapy.
- In 1881, William Thomson invented the standard test for color blindness.
- Jacob da Silva Solis-Cohen performed the first successful laryngomy for vocal cord cancer in 1868. Laryngotomy is a procedure that involves cutting into the larynx to assist breathing when the upper airway has been restricted.
- Frank H. Krusen is considered the "father" of the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation - a branch of medicine aimed at restoring functional ability and quality of life for those who are physically disabled or disabled.
- John H. Gibbon Jr. composed and developed the world's first successful heart-lung machine in 1953.
