Formed in 1825 as Jefferson Medical College Hospital, a predecessor of Jefferson Medical College Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital serves patients in Philadelphia and surrounding communities in the Delaware Valley and southern New Jersey.

Thomas Jefferson University Hospital system has 957 licensed acute care beds. Services are provided in five locations - major hospital facilities and Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience, both at Center City Philadelphia; Methodist Hospital in South Philadelphia; Jefferson at Navy Yard, just past the sports complex; and Jefferson-Voorhees in South Jersey.

Previously a division of Thomas Jefferson University, the Hospital was separated from the University to become a founding member of Jefferson's Health system in 1995. The hospital joined the Methodist Hospital as the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital division in 1996.
