Star Wars is an American space opera franchise franchise, centered on a series of movies made by George Lucas. It describes the adventures of "old characters in distant, distant galaxies".
The franchise began in 1977 with the release of the movie Star Wars (later Episode IV: A New Hope) in 1981, which became a pop culture phenomenon worldwide. This was followed by a successful sequel to The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983); these three films are the original trilogy of Star Wars . The prequel trilogy was released between 1999 and 2005, which received mixed reactions from both critics and fans alike. A sequel trilogy begins in 2015 with the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and followed by the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017). The first eight films were nominated for the Academy Awards (with victories for the first two films released) and have been commercially successful, with combined box office revenues in excess of US $ 8.5 billion, making Star Wars second best-selling movie series. Spin-off movies include Rogue One (2016) and Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018).
The series has spawned extensive media franchises including books, television series, computers and video games, park and land attractions, and comic books, resulting in a significant development of the fictional series universe. Star Wars holds the Guinness World Records title for the most successful film merchandising franchise. By 2015, the total value of Star Wars franchise is estimated to be US $ 42 Ã, billion, making Star Wars media franchises second best-selling of all time.
In 2012, The Walt Disney Company buys Lucasfilm for US $ 4.06 Ã, billion and gets the distribution rights for all the next Star Wars movies , beginning with the release of The Force Awakens in 2015. The previous distributor, 20th Century Fox, is defending the physical distribution rights for the first two Star Wars trilogy, having the permanent rights to the 1977 film the original and will continue to hold the rights to the prequel trilogy and the first two sequels for A New Hope as of May 2020. Walt Disney Studios currently has digital distribution rights for all that> Star Wars movies, except A New Hope . On December 14, 2017, Walt Disney Company announced the pending acquisition of 21st Century Fox, including a movie studio and all distribution rights to A New Hope.

The Star Wars franchise takes place in an unnamed fictional galaxy at an undetermined point in the past, where many alien species (often humanoid) co-exist. People have robotic droids, which help them in their daily routine, and space travel is a common thing.
The spiritual and mystical element of the Star Wars galaxy is known as "the Force". It is depicted in the original film as "an energy field created by all living things that surround us, penetrate us, [and] bind galaxies together". People who are born strongly connected with the Force have better reflexes; through training and meditation, they are able to achieve various supernatural accomplishments (such as telekinesis, forecasting, prakognition, and mind control). The Force is dominated by two major factions of conflict: Jedi, who take advantage of the bright side of the Force, and Sith, who use the dark side of the Force through hatred and aggression.

In 1971, Lucas signed a contract with Universal Studios to direct two films. He intends one of them to be a space opera; However, knowing the film studios are skeptical about the genre, Lucas decided to direct his other first idea, American Graffiti , a story that comes from the age set in the 1960s. In 1973, Lucas began working on his second movie draft script from The Journal of the Whills, a space opera that tells the story of CJ Thorpe's internship training as the Jedi-Bendu space command by the legendary Mace Windy. After Universal refused the film, 20th Century Fox decided to invest in it. On April 17, 1973, Lucas was frustrated because his story was too difficult to understand, so he began to write a 13-page thematic parallel script to Akira Kurosawa
Lucas insisted that the film would be part of the 9-part series and negotiated to defend the advanced rights, to make sure all the films would be made. Tom Pollock, then Lucas's lawyer writes, "So, in the ongoing negotiations, we have a contract with Fox business chief Bill Immerman and I. We come to an agreement that George will defend the advanced rights Not all merchandising rights ] which comes later, your mind is just right, and Fox will get the first chance and the last refusal to make a movie. "Lucas was offered $ 50,000 to write, $ 50,000 to produce, and $ 50,000 to direct the movie. Then the offer increased. American Graffiti Member Harrison Ford has given up acting and became a carpenter that Lucas hired for his home renovation, until Lucas decided to include him as Han Solo in his movie.
Star Wars was released on May 25, 1977. This was followed by The Empire Strikes Back , released on 21 May 1980; the opening sequence of the sequel reveals it as "Episode V". Although the first film in the series was titled Star Wars, with the 1981 anniversary release, Episode IV: A New Hope subtitle was added to stay consistent with the sequel. , and set it as the middle chapter of the continuing saga. The return of Jedi, the last film in the original trilogy, was numbered "Episode VI", and was released on May 25, 1983. The sequel is all self-financed by Lucasfilm, and is generally advertised only under their subtitles. The original trilogy plot centers on the Galactic Civil War of the Rebel Alliance that attempts to free the galaxy from the grip of the Galactic Empire, as well as on Luke Skywalker's quest to become Jedi.
New Hope
Near the orbit of the Tatooine desert planet, the Rebel spacecraft is bugged by the Empire. The ship, the deadliest Imperial agent Darth Vader and his stormtroopers arrested Princess Leia Organa, a secretive member of the uprising. Before he caught on, Leia ensured the R2-D2 astromech, along with the C-3PO droid protocol, escaped with Imperial retreats housed inside and holographic messages for retired Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, who had lived in exile in Tatooine. Droid falls under the possession of Luke Skywalker, an orphan farm boy who was raised by his uncle and aunt. Luke helps the droids find Obi-Wan, now an old hermit known as Ben Kenobi, who reveals himself as Luke's father's missing friend, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker. Obi-Wan confessed to Luke that Anakin was "betrayed and killed" by Vader (who was a former pupil of Jedi Obi-Wan) years ago, and he gave Luke his father's lightsaber to keep it. After seeing Leia's messages, they both hired smugglers Han Solo and Wookiee's Chewbacca co-pilot to board their spacecraft Millennium Falcon, helping them deliver a stolen blueprint in R2-D2 to the Rebel Alliance with hopes of finding weakness to the planet-destroyed planetary station: Death Star.
For The Star Wars second draft, Lucas made a great simplification. He added a mystical energy field known as "The Force" and introduced a young hero on a farm as Luke Starkiller. Annikin became Luke's father, a wise Jedi knight. The third draft killed Annikin's father, replacing him with a leading character Ben Kenobi. Later, Lucas felt the movie was not the first in the sequence, but the movie in the second trilogy of the story. The draft contains a sub-plot that leads to a sequel about "The Princess of Ondos", and by that time a few months later Lucas had negotiated a contract that gave him the right to make two sequels. Not long after, Lucas hired writer Alan Dean Foster, to write two sequels as a novel. In 1976, the fourth draft was prepared for major photography. The film is titled The Adventures of Luke Starkiller, as taken from the Journal of the Whills, Saga I: The Star Wars . During production, Lucas changed Luke's name to Skywalker and changed the title to Just The Star Wars and finally Star Wars . At the time, Lucas did not expect the film to have a sequel. The fourth draft of the text underwent a subtle change, he discarded the sub-plot "Princess of Ondos", becoming a stand-alone film, ending with the destruction of the Galactic Empire itself by destroying the Star of Death. However, Lucas previously considered this film as the first of the series. The point is that if Star Wars succeeds, Lucas can adapt Dean Foster's novel into a low-budget sequel. At that point, Lucas has developed a complicated backstory to aid his writing process.
Before it was released, Lucas considered walking away from the sequel to Star Wars, thinking the movie would fail. But the movie exceeded all expectations. The success of the film and the sale of goods both caused Lucas to make Star Wars the basis of an elaborate movie series, and used the profits to finance his film-making center, Skywalker Ranch. Alan Dean Foster has written the first novel of the Splinter of the Mind's Eye, released in 1978. But Lucas decides not to adapt Foster's work, knowing the sequel will be allowed more budget. At first, Lucas envisioned a series of movies without a set number of entries, such as the James Bond series. In an interview with Rolling Stone in August 1977, he said that he wanted his friends to take turns to direct the film and give a unique interpretation of the series. He added that the backstory where Darth Vader switched to the dark side, killing Luke's father and Obi-Wan Kenobi fights on the volcano when the Galactic Republic falls will make a very good sequel.
Empire Strikes Back
Three years after the destruction of the Star of Death, the Rebels were forced to evacuate their secret base on Hoth as they were hunted by the Empire. At the request of Obi-Wan's spirit, Luke goes to the swamp-filled world of Dagobah to find the exiled Jedi Master Yoda and begin his Jedi training. However, Luke's training was interrupted by Vader, who lured him into a trap by capturing Han and Leia in Cloud City, arranged by old friend Han, Lando Calrissian. During a fierce lightsaber duel with Sith Lord, Luke learns that Vader is his father.
After the success of the original film, Lucas hired science fiction writer Leigh Brackett to write Star Wars II with him. They held a story conference and, by the end of November 1977, Lucas had produced a handwritten treatment called The Empire Strikes Back . It's similar to the last movie, except that Darth Vader did not reveal he was Luke's father.
Brackett completed his first draft in early 1978; in it, Luke's father appears as a ghost to teach Luke. Lucas says he's disappointed with it, but before he can discuss it with him, he dies of cancer. Without a writer, Lucas had to write his own draft. It was the design in which Lucas first used the "Episode" numbering for the movies; Empire Strikes Back is listed as Episode II . As Michael Kaminski said in The Secret History of Star Wars, the disappointment of the first draft probably made Lucas consider various directions to take his story. He uses a new storyline: Darth Vader claims to be Luke's father. According to Lucas, he found this design fun to write, compared to the long struggle of writing the first film, and quickly wrote two more drafts, both in April 1978. Darth Vader's new story point was Luke's father had a drastic effect on the series. After writing two of these drafts, Lucas revised the backstory between Anakin Skywalker, Kenobi, and Emperor.
With this new backstory, Lucas decided that this series would be a trilogy, turning the Empire Strikes Back from Episode II to Episode V in the next draft. Lawrence Kasdan, who recently completed the writing of Raider of the Lost Ark, was then hired to write the next draft, and was given additional input from director Irvin Kershner. Kasdan, Kershner, and producer Gary Kurtz see this film as a more serious and mature film, aided by a darker new storyline, and develops a series of light-hearted adventure roots from the first film.
The return of Jedi
A year after Vader's shocking revelation, Luke leads a rescue attempt to rescue Han from Jabba the Hutt gangsters. Afterwards, Luke returns to Dagobah to complete his Jedi training, only to find Yoda 900 years old on his deathbed. In his last words Yoda insists that Vader is Luke's father, Anakin Skywalker, and that Luke must face his father again to complete his training. Moments later, Obi-Wan's spirit reveals to Luke that Leia is his twin, but Obi-Wan insists that Luke must face Vader again. When the Rebels led an attack on Death Star II, Luke involved Vader in another lightsaber duel as watched by Emperor Palpatine; both Sith Lords intend to turn Luke to the dark side of the Force and take him as their disciple.
When Lucas started writing Episode VI in 1981 (later titled Revenge of the Jedi), much has changed. Making Empire Strikes Back very stressful and expensive, and Lucas's private life was shattered. Burned and do not want to make more Star Wars movies, she vows that she finished with the series in a May 1983 interview with Time magazine. The rugged design of Lucas 1981 had Darth Vader competing with the Emperor for having Luke - and in the second manuscript, "roughly revised design", Vader became a sympathetic character. Lawrence Kasdan was hired to take over once more and, in this final draft, Vader was explicitly redeemed and ultimately unmasked. This character change will provide a stepping stone to the "Darth Vader Tragedy" storyline that underlies the prequels.
Prequel trilogy
After losing most of his fortune in a divorce settlement in 1987, George Lucas had no desire to return to Star Wars and unofficially canceled the trilogy sequel at the Return of Jedi . At that point, the prequel is still a series of basic ideas partially drawn from the original concept of "The Star Wars". Nevertheless, technical advances in the late 1980s and 1990s continued to fascinate Lucas, and he assumed that they might be possible to revisit 20-year-old material. The popularity of the franchise was revived by Star Wars expanding the universe set after the original trilogy films, such as the novel trilogy written by Timothy Zahn and Dark Empire comic book series published by Dark Horse Comics. Due to the renewed popularity of Star Wars , Lucas noticed that there were still many viewers. His children are older, and with the explosion of CGI technology he is now considering to re-direct.
The prequel trilogy consists of Episode I: The Phantom Menace , released on May 19, 1999; Episode II: Attack of the Clones , was released on May 16, 2002; and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith , was released on May 19, 2005. The plot focuses on the fall of the Galactic Republic, as well as the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker's turn to the dark side.
The Phantom Menace
About 32 years before the start of the Galaxy Civil War, the corrupt Trade Federation established a blockade around the planet Naboo. The Sith Lord Darth Sidious has secretly planned a blockade to give his alter ego, Senator Palpatine, a pretense to overthrow and replace the Grand Chancellor of the Republic. At the request of the Chancellor, Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn and his student, the younger Obi-Wan Kenobi, were sent to Naboo to negotiate with the Federation. However, the two Jedis were forced to help Queen Naboo, Padmà © à Amidala, flee from the blockade and beg for a planetary crisis before the Senate of the Republic in Coruscant. When their spaceship was damaged while fleeing, they landed on Tatooine for repairs. Palpatine sends his disciple, Darth Maul, to hunt down the Queen and his Jedi patron. While in Tatooine, Qui-Gon finds a nine-year-old slave named Anakin Skywalker. Qui-Gon helped to free the boy from slavery, trusting Anakin to be the "Chosen One" predicted by the Jedi prophecy to bring the balance to the Force. However, the Jedi Council (led by Yoda) suspects the boy has too much fear and anger inside him.
In 1993, it was announced, at Variety among other sources, that Lucas would make prequels. He started writing more for the story, now showing the series would be one of the tragic checking of Anakin Skywalker's fall to the dark side. Lucas began to re-evaluate how prequels would exist relative to the original; at first they were supposed to be a historical "tangential" confinement to the original, but then he realized they could form the beginning of a long story that began with Anakin's childhood and ended with his death. This is the final step to turn the movie series into "Saga". In 1994, Lucas began writing scenarios to the first prequel, originally titled Episode I: The Beginning . After releasing the film, Lucas announces that he will direct the next two, and starts working on Episode II .
Cloning Attack
Ten years after the Battle of Naboo, the former Queen Naboo Padmà © à ©, now serves as a Senator to his planet, until his duties are plagued by attempted murder. Obi-Wan and his student Anakin were assigned to protect him; Obi-Wan goes on a mission to track down the killer, while Anakin and PadmÃÆ'à pergi go hide. They soon fell in love with each other, albeit secretly because of the Jedi Order rules against attachment. At the same time, the Chancellor Palpatine scheme to sweep the entire galaxy into conflict (known as Clone Wars) between Republican soldiers led by the Jedi Order, and the Independent System Confederation led by the fallen Jedi Count Dooku; former teacher of the deceased teacher Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, and new student Palpatine Sith.
The first draft of Episode II was completed just weeks before main photography, and Lucas hired Jonathan Hales, an author of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, to polish it. Unsure of the title, Lucas has jokingly called the movie "Jar Jar's Great Adventure". In his writing The Empire Strikes Back, Lucas originally decided that Lando Calrissian is a clone and derived from a clonal planet that caused the "Clone Wars" mentioned by Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia in A New Hope ; he then came up with an alternative concept of cloned armies of shocktroopers from remote planets that attacked the Republic and rejected by Jedi. The basic element of the backstory was the basis of the plot for Episode II, with new wrinkles adding that Palpatine secretly set the crisis.
Revenge of the Sith
Three years after the start of the Clone War, Anakin and Obi-Wan led a rescue mission to rescue Chancellor Palpatine who was abducted from Count Dooku and the droid commander, General Grievous. Later, Anakin began to have a prophetic vision of his secret wife, PadmÃÆ'à © died in childbirth. Palpatine, who secretly designs Clone Wars to destroy the Order Jedi, assures Anakin that the dark side of the Force holds the power to save Padmà © à © life. Desperately, Anakin is subject to the teachings of Sith Palpatine and is named Darth Vader. While Palpatine reorganized the Republic into the tyrannical Kingdom, Vader participated in the extermination of the Jedi Order; culminating in a lightsaber duel between himself and his former master Obi-Wan on the Mustafar volcanic planet.
Lucas began working on Episode III before Attack of the Clones was released, offering artist concepts that the film will open with a montage of seven Clone War battles. When he reviewed the summer storyline, however, he said he radically rearranged the plot. Michael Kaminski, in Star Wars Secret History, offers evidence that the issues at Anakin fell to the dark side pushed Lucas to make major changes in the story, first revising the opening sequence in order for Palpatine to be kidnapped and his students, Count Dooku, killed by Anakin as the first act on the last turn towards the dark side. After major photography was completed in 2003, Lucas made a bigger change in the Anakin character, rewriting his entire turn to the dark side; he will now turn primarily in a quest to save Padmà © à © life, than the previous version in which the reason was one of several, including that he truly believed that Jedi was evil and planned to take over the Republic. This fundamental rewriting is done both through the editing of the main recordings, and new and revised scenes were filmed during the shoot in 2004.
The Clone Wars
On August 15, 2008, the stand-alone animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars was released theatrical as a lead-in to an animated TV series of the same name. Film and animation series are both arranged between the Cloning Attack and Sith's Revenge, though Lucas uses the film to introduce a large reton into the storyline, revealing Anakin to having trained a woman to her own disciple , named Ahsoka Tano. Unlike other Star Wars movies whose storyline is completely resolved in the series, an animated series is needed to explain Ahsoka Tano's absence from other films. The new character was initially criticized by fans, but by the end the character animation series became a fan favorite. The series runs 6 seasons, which are broadcast on Cartoon Network, with the exception of the latter. The last season was cut short after the franchise purchase by Disney. There were also two more seasons in the works, but this was also canceled.
The sequel of the trilogy
Over the years, Lucas often overestimated the amount of material he wrote for the series; many of the great men came from the post-1978 period when the series developed into a phenomenon. Michael Kaminski explained that the exaggeration was an act of publicity and security, further rationalizing that because the series's story changed radically throughout the year, there was always Lucas's desire to change his original story retroactively because the audience would only see the material from his point of view.. The exaggeration made the rumors of Lucas have a plot outlining a sequel trilogy (Episode 8, VIII , and IX ), which will continue the story after 1983 Episode VI: Return of Jedi The return of Jedi ?, 'and there is no answer to that. The film is the story of Anakin Skywalker and Luke Skywalker, and when Luke stores the galaxy and redeems his father, that's where the story ends. "
In January 2012, Lucas announced that he would move away from blockbuster movies and instead produce smaller home movies. Asked whether the criticism he received following the prequel trilogy and changes in the original re-release of the trilogy had influenced his decision to retire, Lucas said: "Why do I make more when everyone yells at you all the time and says what is your terrible person?" that the sequel trilogy will never happen, Lucas began working on storytelling for three new Star Wars movies in 2011. In October 2012, The Walt Disney Company agreed to buy Lucasfilm and announced that the Star Wars Episode VII will be released in 2015. Later, it was revealed that three upcoming new films (Episode VII-IX) will be based on the care of the story that had been written by George Lucas before the Lucasfilm sale. Lucasfilm's co-chairman Kathleen Kennedy, president of the company, reported to Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn. In addition, Kennedy will serve as executive producer on new feature films of Star Wars, with franchise creators and Lucasfilm Lucas as creative consultants.
The sequel trilogy begins with Episode VII: The Force Awakens , released on December 18, 2015. Followed by Episode VIII: The Last Jedi , released on December 15, 2017. Episode IX will be released on December 20, 2019.
The Force Awakens
About 30 years after the destruction of Death II, Luke Skywalker disappeared after the death of the new Order Jedi he was trying to build. The remnants of the Empire had become the First Order, and attempted to destroy Luke and the New Republic, while the Resistance opposed, led by the daughter who was general of Leia Organa and supported by the Republic. In Jakku, Resistance pilot Poe Dameron gets a map to Luke's location. Stormtroopers under the command of Kylo Ren, son of Leia and Han Solo, arrested Poe. Poe droid BB-8 escapes with a map, and meets up with scavenger Rey. Kylo tortures Poe and learns about BB-8. Stormtrooper FN-2187 was flawed from the First Order, and freed Poe who nicknamed "Finn", while the two escaped in TIE fighters who bumped into Jakku, who apparently killed Poe. Finn found Rey and BB-8, but the First Order did likewise; both of them escaped from Jakku in the stolen Millennium Falcon. Falcon was recaptured by Han and Chewbacca, another smuggler since leaving the Resistance. They agreed to help deliver the map into BB-8 to the Resistance.
The scenario for Episode VII was originally set to be written by Michael Arndt, but in October 2013 it was announced that the writing assignment would be taken over by Lawrence Kasdan and J. J. Abrams. On January 25, 2013, The Walt Disney Studios and Lucasfilm officially announced JJ Abrams as Star Wars Episode VII's director and producer, along with Bryan Burk and Bad Robot Productions.
The Last Jedi
Right after the destruction of the Starkiller Base, Rey went to the Ahch-To planet, and attempts to convince the last surviving Jedi, Luke Skywalker to teach him how to Jedi and the Force. Rey also seeks answers from his past and the origins of the conflict between Kylo Ren and Luke, with help from Luke, while through the Force and unbeknownst to Luke, he starts communicating with his arch-rival Kylo Ren, who is also Luke's nephew and falls. Jedi apprentice, Ben Solo (who changed his name to Kylo Ren). Meanwhile, Ben Solo's mother and Luke Leia's sister lead Poe, Finn, BB-8, Rose Tico, and the rest of the Resistance, as they are pursued by the First Order led by Snoke, with Kylo Ren as the second commander. Upon hearing Kylo Ren's view, Rey disagrees with Luke and although his warning leaves him, to try to redeem Kylo Ren and achieve peace. To do this, Rey, unwittingly, helps Kylo Ren kill Supreme Leader Snoke, but unfamiliar, Kylo Ren's real intention is to replace Snoke as Supreme Leader of the First Order, believing destroying Jedi and Resistance is the only way to reach the truth. peace. Rey had to choose between Kylo Ren's offer to lead the First Order, and help him wipe out the Resistance and Luke, or help the defeated and defeated Resistance survive at Criat, before it was too late.
On November 20, 2012, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg will write and produce Episode VIII and IX . Kasdan and Kinberg were later confirmed as creative consultants on the films, in addition to writing stand-alone films. In addition, John Williams, who wrote music for the previous six episodes, was hired to write music for Episode VII VIII and IX . On March 12, 2015, Lucasfilm announced that Rian Johnson's "Looper director will direct Episode VIII with Ram Bergman as producer for Ram Bergman Productions. Johnson's initially claimed report will also lead Episode IX , but later confirmed he will write only the care of the story. Johnson later wrote on his Twitter that the information about him writing care for Episode IX was old, and he was not involved with the film's writing. When asked about Episode VIII in an August 2014 interview, Johnson said "it's boring to talk about, because the only thing I really can say is, I'm just happy." I do not have my terror hoping I would, at least not yet.I'm sure I will at some point. "The subject of photography on The Last Jedi began in February 2016. Additional shooting took place in Dubrovnik from March 9 to March 16, 2016, as well as in Ireland in May 2016. The main photography was wrapped up in July 2016. On December 27, 2016, Carrie Fisher died after undergoing cardiac arrest a few days earlier. Prior to his death, Fisher had completed filming his role as General Leia Organa in The Last Jedi . The film was released on December 15, 2017.
Episode IX
Production on Episode IX is scheduled to begin around 2017. Variety and Reuters reports that Carrie Fisher is scheduled for a key role in Episode IX . Now, Lucasfilm, Disney and others involved with the film have been forced to find a way to overcome his death in the upcoming movie and change the role of his character. In January 2017, Lucasfilm stated they would not digitally produce a Fisher performance for the film. In April 2017, Fisher Todd's brother and daughter Billie Lourd gave Disney permission to use the latest Fisher recordings for the film, but later that month, Kennedy stated that Fisher would not appear in the film. The main photography of Star Wars: Episode IX is set to begin in July 2018.
Anthology film
Before selling Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012, and parallel to the development of its sequel trilogy, George Lucas and original trilogy script writer Lawrence Kasdan began development on a movie about a young Han Solo. On February 5, 2013, Disney CEO Bob Iger publicized the development of the independent film Lawrence Kasdan, along with an undisclosed film written by Simon Kinberg. On February 6th, Entertainment Weekly reported the Kasdan movie will focus on Han Solo, while others in Boba Fett (info on the next movie is never confirmed). Disney CFO Jay Rasulo describes a stand-alone film as the origin story. Kathleen Kennedy explains that stand-alone films will not be crossed with sequel trilogy films, stating,
George is so clear how it works. The canon he created is a Star Wars saga. Currently, Episode VII falls within the canon. Spin-off films, or we can come up with some other way of calling them, they are in the vast universe he created. No attempt was made to bring the character (from a stand-alone film) in and out of the saga episode. Consequently, from a creative point of view, this is a roadmap George made very clear.
In April 2015, Lucasfilm and Kennedy announced that a stand-alone film would be called the Star Wars movie Anthology (although the word anthology was never used in any movie title, instead chose to bring the sub-title "Star Wars Story "under the main title of the movie.) Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was released on December 16, 2016 as the first anthology series film separate from the main episode episode.. Solo's second movie: A Star Wars Story , was released on May 25, 2018. The third yet untitled movie will be based on Boba Fett and will be released in 2020.
Rogue One
The story is about Rogue One, a rebel group led by Jyn Erso, who stole the Death Star plan. The film ends just before the episode IV: A New Hope commences.
The idea for the film is conceived by John Knoll who works as a visual effects watcher from the prequel trilogy film. In May 2014, Lucasfilm announced Gareth Edwards as the first anthology film director, with Gary Whitta writing the first draft, for release on December 16, 2016. On March 12, 2015, the movie's title was revealed to be Rogue One , with Chris Weitz rewrote the script, and starred Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, with Ben Mendelsohn, and Diego Luna all playing original characters for the film, with suppoting roles for James Earl Jones who voiced Darth Vader, and other characters from previous films, including Bail Organa and Mon Mothma. The film is the first of a series to include characters from the animated series, from The Clone Wars' Saw Gerrera is extremist Jyn Erso's mentor, and Chopper from Star Wars: Rebels has a cameo. In April 2015, teaser footage is displayed during the Celebration Star Wars cap. Lucasfilm announced the filming will begin in the summer of 2015 and release a synopsis plot. Director Edwards stated, "This comes to a group of individuals who do not have magical powers that somehow bring hope to the galaxy."; and describes a movie style similar to a war movie: "This is a war fact, a good person is evil, a bad person is a complicated, layered, very rich scenario for making a movie." After its debut, Rogue One received generally positive reviews, with its appearances, action sequences, soundtracks, visual effects and darker tones praised. The film grossed over US $ 500 Ã, million worldwide within one week of its release.
Solo
Solo is a film focusing on younger Han Solo and early in his career as a smuggler, as well as his friendship with Wookiee Chewbacca. A younger Lando Calrissian also appears as the owner of the Millennium Falcon . The film is set before the events of Rogue One and Han appearance in Episode IV: A New Hope .
Before selling Lucasfilm to Disney, George Lucas began development on a movie about a young Han Solo. Lucas hired Star Wars veteran scriptwriter native to Lawrence Kasdan, along with his son Jon Kasdan, to write the script. The film stars Alden Ehrenreich as the young Han Solo, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca (after playing a double role for the characters in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi) Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, with Emilia Clarke and Woody Harrelson playing the original character for the film. Directed Phil Lord and Christopher Miller started major photography on the film, but due to creative differences, the couple left the project in June 2017 with three and a half weeks left in mainstream photography. His successor is Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard, who previously said, "George, you must do it!", Has been one of three directors to reject George Lucas's offer to direct Episode I: The Phantom Menace i>. Howard has previously collaborated with Lucas prior to the existence of Star Wars as an actor in the 1972 film directed by George Lucas, which features the character of Howard helping the original character of Han Solo actor Harrison Ford, after a car accident. Howard also directed Willow (1988) to Lucasfilm, Warwick Davis, who played Howard's lead role in the film, also appeared in Solo.
Boba Fett Untitled Movies
The third anthology film is scheduled to be released in 2020. A writer for the film has been hired in September 2016.
In February 2013, Entertainment Weekly reported that Lucasfilm hired Josh Trank to direct the standalone Star Wars Movie, with news confirmed shortly thereafter. However, in November 2016 Trank announced that he had left the project. In 2017, it was reported that the film was still in early development at Lucasfilm, and with reports stating that the film will focus on Boba Fett's hunter prizes. Lucasfilm never confirmed the details of the plot, but revealed that the remaining Josh Trank movie is a different movie from Solo and Rogue One . Simon Kinberg, co-creator of the animated series Star Wars Rebels , has previously been tied to producing a film that was never officially confirmed by Boba Fett. In March 2018, it was revealed by the Deadline that Kinberg wrote a script for an undisclosed film in the franchise, which he produced.
