Community unity

Almost every residence in the Shires Village census designation is part of the Shires Village Community Association. Village Shires is governed by a 7-member community board of directors. The board of directors establishes and approves budgets, hires on-site management, rents home landscape crew, buys equipment, contracts with vendors to maintain recreational facilities and community maintenance, and establish community rules and regulations. The on-site management office is located at 3001 East Village Road.

Village Shires is managed by the Village Shires Community Association (VSCA). VSCA includes a single house - Heather Valley I and II; townhouses - Country Place I and II, Bridleridge, Natura, and Millpond; and six independent condominium associations, Beacon Hill, Signal Hill/Heritage Place, Tamerlane, Canterbury Croft, Hamlet and Old Jordan Woods.

In an effort to facilitate the economics of operations, six associations of condominiums annually contract with VSCA to undertake joint community services. VSCA oversees structuring, snow removal, maintenance and operation of recreational and public areas through supervisory and contract agreements with Danella Management and Realty Co. Inc., an on-site management company.

Public elections throughout the community are held every November to fill vacant positions on the VSCA Executive Board for the next calendar year. In an effort to ensure continuity of operations, the board's position overlaps and spans a period of two years. There are also some committees reporting to the Executive Board, such as the Architectural Control Committee, which assists the Executive Board in approving or denying requests to make additions and changes to the townhome by the owner.

The Board of Directors meets monthly with on-site managers to discuss and oversee finances, community issues, correspondence, contractual agreements, vendor and contractor performance, budget issues and other issues related to the community.
