St. Jude Medical Center is a faith-based, non-profit-based hospital located in Fullerton, California. Founded by Sisters St. Joseph of Orange in 1957, a 320-bed medical treatment center has gained a reputation for clinical excellence and award-winning care.
The hospital's 670-physician staff covers virtually all specializations and subspecialties, while nurses, technologists, therapists, and highly skilled support staff offer certification and advanced degree levels that significantly exceed the national average. In addition to neurointerventional and cardiac catheterization laboratories and the Intensive Neonate Level III Unit, St. Jude Medical Center offers a dedicated critical care unit that is managed 24/7 by certified intensivist.
St. Jude is one of the few hospitals in the country recognized by The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association as a Comprehensive Advanced Stroke Center, a term used to identify hospitals that consistently meet quality and time standards in treating strokes and diseases cerebrovascular. The medical center is also among the eight percent of US hospitals to receive Magnet Designation for nursing excellence. Part of St. Health System Joseph, St. Jude Medical Center serves as a support and referral center for a variety of patient services, including one from a California accreditation program that only accredited spinal cord injuries, brain injury, and comprehensive stroke rehabilitation. Other areas of specialization include: pregnancy, digestive and gastrointestinal surgery, orthopedics and joint replacement, neuroscience, women's health, rehabilitation, heart care, robotics and minimally invasive surgery, and cancer treatments.
In 2014, the hospital opened the $ 255 million Northwest Tower, which, along with the Southwest Tower built several years before, created beautifully designed patient rooms. The main areas of expansion include three full floors dedicated to maternity services and other floors covering 14 "intelligent surgery", including a hybrid "cardiovascular" suite with robotic c-arm imaging, and a special neurosurgery room with intraoperative MRI. Additional surgical technologies include the da Vinci surgical robot as well as the SuperDimension robot system for lung cancer treatment.

History
The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet began operating their first hospital in Eureka, California in 1919 in response to the Spanish flu epidemic. The Order moved its main house to Orange County in 1922. They acquired Fullerton General Hospital, a historic facility designed by Frederick Eley, in 1931, but did not meet postwar standards for operations.
In 1953 a group of doctors, led by Ramiro Fernandez, M.D., met with the sisters to see about building a new hospital. It was Dr.'s wife. Fernandez, Emily, who suggested the name St. Jude, the patron saint of the desperate situation.
An entrepreneur, Miles Sharkey, donated the land in western Fullerton provided that it was used to build the hospital. Of the 17 acres (6.9 ha) earned by the sisters, the first 7.5 acres (3.0 ha) were replaced with them for $ 10. On November 24, 1953, the hilltop property of St. Jude is built and blessed.
St. Hospital Jude was publicly ordained on May 11, 1957, with 2,000 spectators present as well as officials including Congressman James B. Utt and Cardinal James McIntyre, Archbishop of Los Angeles.
When the first mission of Sister St. Joseph from Orange coming to California was to teach, the 1918 influenza epidemic shifted their focus to medical care, as they began to care for the sick and dying in their homes. In 1931, the sisters bought Fullerton General Hospital, their second hospital in Orange County. As the facility became obsolete and could no longer be adapted to new methods and technologies, the sisters began to raise the million dollars needed for a new hospital. A local businessman donated a piece of property at the top of the hill and with contributions from the community, St. The "ultra-modern" Jude opened in 1957.
Improving the health of the communities it serves remains the core mission of the hospital and 10 percent of the organization's net revenue is dedicated to public health initiatives, with particular emphasis on helping disadvantaged and disadvantaged people. Community hospital programs include
- St. Joseph's Environmental Health Center Jude
- Dental Clinic Jude
- St. Jude Mobile Health Vans
- Caring Neighbor Program
- School-based health and obesity programs
- Environmental health initiatives include sponsorship and community garden funding, walking trails, and fitness equipment.
