Histori
Parks and lakes are named after the former mining village of Hope, Ohio. The original city of Hope still stands under the water of Hope Lake. The city is flooded into the cliff side, which is now used as a swimming area. There is still one original building standing, The Old-room Hope School still standing nearby, in the state forest, and has been renovated for use as a community meeting venue. The Moonville Rail-Trail passes from close by. Inside the garden is the old Hope Furnace, which was once smelt of iron ore mined out of the hills in the area.
Founded as Lake Hope Forest Park in 1937, the city gained its state park designation with the establishment of the Parks and Recreation Division in 1949. A new garden cottage opened in 2013, seven years after the destruction of the original cottage in 2006.
