Church History of Hope
Hope began in 1997, a "small group of people who dream about what the church can be if we are honest, relevant, and authentic". According to the website, "We believe in the Bible and we are grateful for its stability and guidance in the midst of a changing world, at the same time we love things on the creative side." During the first two years the church met at Ruby Carver Elementary School, then moved to Godwin High School. Hope to buy the current property across West Creek in Goochland County and move into the building in September 2008.
Hope Midtown and additional locations
In 2013, with the West Creek auditorium filled with capacity for several weekend services, Hope's leadership made a strategic decision not to expand the capacity of the current auditorium, but instead to launch additional sites in the Richmond metro area, effectively becoming a multisite church. Hope's first campus location was chosen - the "Midtown" area of ââRichmond, a loosely defined geographical area on East of Libbie Avenue, the West of the Boulevard, the North of the James River and the South of the Lakeside area of âââ ⬠<â ⬠< Richmond. Micah Voraritskul joined the Hope staff as Midtown Campus Pastor in February 2015, and the "Hope Midtown" community was held to offer a September worship experience in September 2015 at the historic Thomas Jefferson High School.
Arts and Hope Church
A typical element of the Hope Church is their commitment to art. This value comes from the Christian idea that God as Creator created man in His image, making them creative and their creation (art) into a domain of sacred beauty and expression. Hope has a Department of Liturgy, whose mission is "to extend God's worship by empowering the artist community" towards the end of seeing the "redemptive art movement" in Richmond, Virginia. They strive to empower local artists by hosting an art gallery and visual art show series, by helping songwrights and musicians capture their artworks in their recording studio, and by creating, producing and releasing original movies through their affiliates, Check The Gate Film. In addition, they organize summer courses of art classes for children and adults.
