The George R. Newell House in Orlando, Florida was built in 1885 by George R. Newell, a Baltimore lawyer, for his wife, Susie Gibson. At that time, other houses on Lake Avenue were also occupied by newlyweds, so the area was known as "Honeymoon Row." It was lived continually by Newells and their two sons, Leigh G. and Sidney P., and then by Sidney and his wife Eleanor Hope Cobb and two daughters Eleanor Hope and Sue Gibson, until 1970, when both Sidney and Eleanor Hope died. This is a historical house previously listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its listing status changed in 1975. This is because the houses sold by Sidney and Eleanor Hope after attempts to buy them and restored by the local history group failed because of a lack of funds. It was destroyed in the same year by its new owner, who built a condominium in the back of the parking lot and a house with a similar plan on the front of the parking lot.
