Eleanor Mary Josaitis (nÃÆ' à © e Reed ; December 17, 1931 - August 9, 2011) is one of the founders of Focus: HOPE. He is involved in building the legacy of civil rights organizations. Over the years, he is the Executive Director of Focus: HOPE. After Father Cunningham's death in 1997, he became Executive Director, and later became CEO. In 2006, he handed the day-to-day operations to new leadership teams to focus his efforts on fundraising. He died of peritoneal cancer on August 9, 2011 in Livonia, Michigan.
He provides leadership and advocacy for the Commodities Supplemental Food Program and makes an important contribution to people's awareness about hunger and malnutrition. Working with co-founder Father William Cunningham, he helped develop the Center of Opportunity education and training program to help underrepresented minorities gain access to jobs and careers. He serves on many councils and committees, including the National Labor Alliance Council, the Michigan Council for Economic Growth and Labor, and the Advisory Council for the Arab-American and Chaldean Council. In 2002 he was named one of the most influential women in Detroit by Crain's Detroit Business.

Legacy
Josaitis is widely known and respected throughout Metro Detroit for his work in the community, and has been referred to as "Mother Theresa Detroit" before her death. US Senator Carl Levin gave a speech at his funeral, quoting his advice to "Know the dignity and beauty of everyone, and take practical action to deal with racism, poverty and injustice."
In his memory, Detroit Free Press and Detroit Metropolitan Affairs Coalition each year present Eleanor Josaitis Unsung Hero Award, which "recognizes someone who may not have received wide recognition that he is worthy of long-term efforts for further regional cooperation and understanding."
