Histori

Rush Medical College was inaugurated on March 2, 1837, two days before the city of Chicago was hired. The college opened with 22 students on December 4, 1843. It was the first health care agency in Chicago and one of several medical schools in the west of Alleghenies. Its founder, Dr. Daniel Brainard, named the school to honor Dr. Benjamin Rush, the only doctor with medical school training to sign the Declaration of Independence and who will later teach basic Meriwether Lewis medical skills for his expedition with William Clark to the Pacific Northwest. The public hospital associated with the medical college will be the first in Chicago.

The early Rush Faculty, renowned at the American border for its expertise, is involved in patient care, research and teaching, and is associated with a number of new scientific developments and clinical procedures. As the city grows, so does Rush's involvement with other developing institutions: St. Luke, founded in 1864; The Presbyterian Hospital, which began at the urging of Rush faculty in 1883; and the University of Chicago, where Rush Medical College was affiliated and then united from 1898 until 1942.

In the early 1940s, Rush stopped his undergraduate education, but his library was maintained and his faculty continued to teach at the University of Illinois School of Medicine. In 1969, Rush Medical College reactivated its charter and joined the Presbyterian-St. Luke's Hospital, which had been established through a merger in 1956, to form Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke Medical Center. Rush University, which now includes the academy of medicine, nursing, health sciences and research training, was established in 1972. The Medical Center officially changed its name in September 2003 to Rush University Medical Center, to reflect an important role in education and research in its field. mission of patient care.

Rush Transform

Currently, Rush is central to basic and clinical research, with doctors and scientists involved in hundreds of research projects developing and testing the effectiveness and safety of new therapies and medical devices. Robert H. Cohn and Terri Cohn Research Building are cutting-edge facilities where investigators are conducting research to identify the causes of various diseases. Rush invested more than a billion dollars in Rush Transformation, a comprehensive construction and remodeling program that includes 14-storey inpatient care facilities and an advanced emergency response center (opened in 2012), a five-storey ambulatory orthopedic building opened in 2009, a garage seven-storey parking, central power plant, underground loading dock, and renovation of existing buildings.

The new 806,000-square-foot East Tower hospital building will provide Rush with its first major hospital facility in more than 25 years. 14-storey patient care tower of acute and critical care patient home, as well as surgical, diagnostic and therapeutic services utilize the most advanced technology available. The new hospital will include the expansion of emergency services facilities including the Emergency Response Center, a unique facility that will bring unprecedented levels of readiness to Chicago and the region in the event of an immediate and widespread emergency such as pandemics or bioterrorism. The center is designed to have 40 exam rooms with a "spike" capacity to treat additional patients in the event of a disaster. It's located on the ground floor of the new tower.

The new facility incorporates a concept called "intervensional platform," a design model developed in recent years for centers like Rush that increasingly involve several medical specialists to treat patients with highly complex diseases using the most advanced technology available. Two other academic medical centers are building new inpatient facilities, UCLA Health Center (Los Angeles) and Johns Hopkins Hospital Center (Baltimore), owning or incorporating the concept of an interventional platform into their new hospital building. The Rush's intervention platform includes three floors dedicated to special operations, imaging, and procedures. This includes a new larger operating room that can accommodate more specialized equipment and technologies, including imaging and robotic equipment. Nearby, facilities for interventional radiology, cardiology and neurosurgery, encourage wider collaboration between various medical disciplines. Finding these key services close to one another minimizes the need for patients and their families to travel to multiple locations in the medical center.

The top five floors of the eastern tower overshadow acute and critical Rush patients, with each floor divided into two with two equal parts - or units - on either side. Floors 10 and 11 accommodate the critical care unit of adults in the hospital, each floor has two 28 bed units. The remaining three floors are dedicated to acute care/surgical patients with two 32 beds in each level.

The design of acute and critical care towers was created by doctors and nurses whose ideas about the design of universal space, standardization, efficiency and security affect the layout. They consider the line of sight to the room from the nursing station and the number of steps required to reach each room. The nursing station is at the center of the core, allowing hospital staff to see all wings from a single location. All standard patient rooms either serve as a medical surgical room or critical care room, so when caregivers enter the room in the new tower, they can quickly access supplies and equipment.

All patient rooms are private and offer family accommodation, such as a daybed for guests. There are 376 beds in the new facility, and Rush will have a total of 720 beds operating during the completion of the Transformation project.
