History
The New Hope station was once the terminal point of the New Hope Branch, the Reader Company. Regular service to this station ended in September 1952. The station became a heritage train station of the NHRR, originally known as the New Hope of Reading Company (RDG) Branch, which rents the North Pennsylvania Railroad, where it is part. The train ran as far as Hartsville Station (near Bristol Road) until March 21, 1891, when the line was extended to the long term terminal New Hope, Pennsylvania.
A decade after June 1952, when the Hatboro-New Hope passenger service was discontinued, the RDG's financial situation became critical. Seeking to escape from an unfavorable branch line through abandonment, a group of train enthusiasts and entrepreneurs led by Philadelphia lawyer Kenneth Souser - founded as Steam Trains, Inc. - trying to operate a non-profit steam train. Steam Trains, Inc. became organized as the New Hope and Ivyland Railroad, and on June 20, 1966, the 16.7-mile line sold for $ 200,000.
