DMC Surgical Hospital is one of eight hospitals/Institutions that set up the Detroit Medical Center. DMC Surgical Hospital is dedicated to the surgical needs of adults and children. Surgery for adults includes orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery relative to both spinal and podiatric surgery. In conjunction with Children's Hospital of Michigan, surgery for pediatric patients primarily provides services for all surgical outpatient needs. The main emphasis of this facility is a commitment to orthopedic sports medicine that includes services for adults and adolescents. The hospital also offers 24-hour emergency care and psychiatric inpatient services.

Histori
The Detroit Medical Center first opened the site in Madison Heights, Michigan in March 2003 as Michigan Orthopedic Specialty Hospital. This is the first hospital in the state to offer in-patient and outpatient surgical treatment specifically focused on orthopedics. In addition, it provides a 24-hour general emergency room for the community. The hospital also continues to provide services through Madison Behavioral Health Services, which it acquires with the purchase of the site.
The growing hospital also includes a full-service radiology department with MRI and ultrasound technology, Back Pain Clinic and Off-site Care Center. Recently, it was expanded to include an outpatient surgery service conducted by DMC doctors Children's Hospital of Michigan. On July 10, 2008, the facility was renamed the DMC Surgical Hospital to better represent this wider service for adults and children.
On July 1, 2014, the facility eliminated its Emergency Service and became an Emergency Care facility.

Closure
On August 11, 2014, the Detroit Metro Area experienced a storm that dropped an official total of 4.57 inches of rain in the area, with some locations receiving more than six inches and during this storm the hospital suffered extensive water damage. On September 30, 2014, the DMC announced that it will close the facility from October 3, 2014 with all work completed October 10, 2014. The Detroit News reported that 127 employees will be laid off until the DMC can reassign them to another facility.
In the summer of 2017, the time structure is in the real estate market.
