History

Augusta Technical College was founded in 1961 as Augusta Area Vocational-Technical School. It was merged with Richmond Area Vocational School in 1966 and renamed to Augusta Area Technical School. In 1987 it was renamed again to Augusta Technical Institute, and took its current name in 2000.

The school has four campuses, one in Augusta, another in Thomson, the third in Waynesboro and the fourth in Grovetown. All campuses are accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). As a technical college it is governed by Technical College System of Georgia.

Augusta Technical College offers associate degrees, diplomas, and technical certificates of credit. Over 100 programs of study are offered including; Allied Health and Nursing, Business and Personal Services, Information and Engineering Technology and Industrial Technology. Augusta Tech continues to grow and recently launched two new programs. The Nuclear Engineering Technology program is an effort to address the nuclear industry's increasing need for a well-trained nuclear workforce, and the associate degree Nursing (ADN) program will prepare more registered nurses in a field that continues to be in demand.

Financial aid options are available via the Georgia Hope Scholarship and Grant, Federal FAFSA/PELL Grants, loans, and several local scholarship opportunities.

Augusta Tech also maintains an office at Fort Gordon, serving military service members, retirees, and their spouses. The Georgia Hope Grant is available for these groups. Celebrating 50 years of education that works, Augusta Tech continues to grow.
