Controversy

Not at all prepared for disaster: Chennai's hospitals - private and government - are extremely vulnerable, improvising solutions as the situation develops. At least 13 primary health centers in Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur District were affected. But the worst is MIOT International, where 18 patients with ventilator support died on 2 and 3 December, according to a press release of the Secretary of Health. The government gave clean chit to MIOT Hospital. A PIL was filed against MIOT Hospital, accusing a plot that was gnawed and that it had built an illegal culvert, had been closed by Madras high court without any orders. The court observed that MIOT Hospital had taken all necessary permits for the construction and the building was in compliance with the rules and there were no violations. The court stated that "the allegations are based on allegations and allegations."
