Controversy
In 2008, the LCME or Medical Education Liaison Committee put the George Washington University Medical School in an accredited trial period, citing a number of issues. Although refusing to publish the entire list, among the issues recognized by GW is the outdated system in managing its curriculum, the curriculum itself, high student debt, student maltreatment, and insufficient study and lounge space for its students. Significantly, in 2008, GWU was the only medical school (among 129 LCM accredited agencies) to be placed on probation and the first such in fifteen years.
