I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell is an independent 2009 American comedy film loosely based on the work and persona of author Tucker Max, who co-wrote the script. In an interview with Shave Magazine Max explains that the movie is not a "direct recount or retelling, it says it's based on real events because of it." Basically, every scene in the movie takes place in real life. one way or another but it happens in different time or time frame, but almost everything happens. "The film was directed by Bob Gosse and starred by Matt Czuchry as Max. It is produced by Darko Entertainment and distributed by Freestyle Releasing. Max has said before that a sequel is possible if the initial film finds financial success.
The movie was released in theaters on September 25, 2009. The DVD was released on January 26, 2010. While the book is best-seller, the film adaptation of Max's exploits was a box office bomb that received very negative reviews.

Denise QuiÃÆ' Â ± who originally acted as Lara, but dropped out two days before the filming began. Dominczyk, who has been the first choice of the original for the role but has graduated due to scheduling conflicts, is now available and immediately signed in.
The film includes a cameo appearance from UFC Forrest Griffin and Mac Danzig fighters; rapper Paul Wall; Fark.com founder Drew Curtis, author Timothy Ferriss, and real life Tucker Max (portraying Dan's brother, Jeff). Producer/writer Nils Parker also has a small cameo, playing as a broadcaster on strip clubs.
Reception
The film generally receives negative reviews; only 7 of 32 professional critics (22%) were sampled by Rotten Tomatoes who reacted positively. The consensus review of Rotten Tomatoes is: "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell fails in his business with lewd humor, and Tucker Max discovers the unpopular and embarrassing thing that this inevitable story of the movie is forced. " Many critics consider the film to be one of the worst this year.
Box office
Opening a dirty weekend is $ 366,900 on 120 screens. Its domestic gross total is $ 1.4 million. Max blames film box office failures on movie marketing.
In 2016 (7 years after the film's release), Max describes the film as "the greatest failure, perhaps the biggest and most personal ever", and blamed himself: "(the film) failed mainly because of my bad decisions, and all those decisions ultimately driven by my deep identity and my emotional problems. "
Controversy
In 2009, during the pre-release promotional period for the film, several publications accused Max of raping and promoting rape culture allegedly glorifying the practice of engaging in sexual acts with drunk women. In addition, the protests were staged on screenings by demonstrators who argued that poisoning prevents a woman from approving sex, and thus Max's stories and films include descriptions of actions that "meet the definition of rape law in North Carolina." In 2012, writing in his book Trust Me, I'm Lying , Max's marketer, Ryan Holiday, revealed that the controversy was a publicity stunt created and spread by Holiday to create interest in the film.
