Histori

Benjamin Riegel founded Riegelsville. Original, and now historic, the Riegelsville Inn he built in 1838 still stands. This historic stone inn has been offering food and lodging to Bucks County travelers for over 160 years. This community is named for the Riegel family, as the original landowner; they set up a paper mill across the river in New Jersey.

With the completion of the Delaware Canal in 1832, the land along the Delaware River attracted a major industrial development. Woods and fields bordering the Delaware Canal; the remains of a crumbling rock foundation along its banks are a busy reminder of the past.

Riegelsville, Pennsylvania was a factory town in the late 1880s and 1900s. The borough overlooking the Delaware River is stretched by the 1904 Riegelsville Bridge built by John A. Roebling's Sons, Co. It is one of about three dozen bridges that stretch the Delaware River between Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
