Histori

Benjamin Riegel founded Riegelsville. Original, and now historic, the Riegelsville Inn he built in 1838 still stands. This historic stone inn has been offering food and lodging to Bucks County travelers for over 160 years. This community is named for the Riegel family, as the original landowner; they set up a paper mill across the river in New Jersey.

With the completion of the Delaware Canal in 1832, the land along the Delaware River attracted a major industrial development. The movement of coal, the main important product of the region, bring capital & amp; investment to Easton. The vessels carry coal, stones, iron, crops and articles from the mill along 60 miles from Easton to Bristol. Along Canal Street grew one of the largest industrial manufacturing centers in America during the 1830s and 1840s. Easton continues to evolve as an industrial, manufacturing, trade and cultural center in the Forks of the Delaware and along a major rail line. Riegelsville prospered when the Delaware Canal was opened in 1832 with warehouses and factories lining the banks. The canal was closed in 1931 after 99 years of service and was replaced by a railroad track. Today, Riegelsville is a city of peace and quiet. Woods and fields bordering the Delaware Canal; the remains of a crumbling rock foundation along its banks are a busy reminder of the past.

Riegelsville, Pennsylvania was a factory town in the late 1880s and 1900s. The borough overlooking the Delaware River is stretched by the 1904 Riegelsville Bridge built by John A. Roebling's Sons, Co. It is one of about three dozen bridges that stretch the Delaware River between Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The residence near the river built by Riegel Paper Company executives in the late 1880s along the "Mansions Row" has been restored.

House of Benjamin Riegel was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
