The New Hope Baptist Church is a church in Newark, New Jersey located at 106 Sussex Avenue at University Heights.

History
New Hope started its service as a "mission" at Addie and Maggie Vine's home. The Church was organized on June 2, 1903 by the small but growing American African community in Newark and was established on May 1, 1918.
Famous members of the congregation include the late R & amp; B Whitney Houston, who grew up attending church and singing in the choir, as well as her cousin Dionne and Dee Dee Warwick. Whitney's mother, Cissy Houston, is also an active member of the hearing, and serves on the Council of Deacons.

Events
In 2010, Cory Booker initiated an offer re-election mayor of Newark. Cissy Houston has long been a musical influence in the church. Funeral services for Whitney Houston, lifelong member of the congregation, held at New Hope Baptist Church. NJ Governor Chris Christie commenced his church inauguration in 2009 and 2014.
