The Montana District is one of 35 districts of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS), and consists of the state of Montana. It also includes one trial in Idaho and one in North Dakota. Montana District includes about 67 trials and missions, divided into 6 circuits, as well as 18 preschools and 7 elementary schools. Membership baptized in the district courts is about 15,000, making it one of the two smallest districts together with Wyoming District, which is roughly the same in size; the merging of the two districts was proposed in 2006.
Montana District was formed in 1945 when North Dakota and Montana Districts were divided, also created North Dakota District. District offices are located in Billings, Montana. Delegates from each session meet at a convention every three years to elect the district president, vice president, circuit counselor, board of directors, and other officers. Pastor Terry Forke became district president in September 2006 and re-elected for a second term in 2009. The 31st Regular Convention was held on June 15-18, 2009 in Billings with the theme "Let us cling to the recognition of our hope without hesitation, for he that is promised is faithful "(Hebrews 10:23). The 31st Regular Convention will be held from 11 to 14 June 2012, in Billings.
