Steven Curtis Chapman (born November 21, 1962) is an American Christian musician, songwriter, record producer, actor, writer and social activist.
After starting his career in the late 1980s as a contemporary Christian songwriter and musician, Chapman has since been recognized as one of the most prolific singers in the genre, releasing more than 20 albums. Chapman also won five Grammy awards and 58 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, more than any other artist in history. Seven "Artists of the Year" The Dove Award, most recently in 2009, is also an industry record. By 2014, Chapman has sold more than 10 million albums and has 10 RIAA certified Gold or Platinum albums.
Chapman is also a vocal advocate for adoption, along with his wife Mary Beth. Together, they have started a charity organization called Show Hope (formerly called Shaohannah's Hope), which mobilizes individuals and communities to care for orphans through the care of international orphans and grants of adoption assistance to help put more orphans out of the country and the US in loving family. In 2009, Show Hope completed the construction of Mary's Big House of Hope, a medical treatment center in China that provides holistic care to orphans with special needs. He is also a contributor to Compassionart, a charity founded by Martin Smith of the Delirious British Christian band.
Chapman is recognized in the Fall 2010 edition Wood & amp; Steel discussed the new Signature Taylor 714 guitar series in honor of his youngest daughter, Maria Sue. Steven Curtis Chapman was born to Judy and Herb Chapman in Paducah, Kentucky, on November 21, 1962. Chapman's father was a guitar teacher in Paducah, and Steven and young Herb Jr. grew up playing guitar and singing.

In 2007, artists such as Sandi Patty, Billy Dean, Glen Campbell, Quartet Cathedral, and Roger Whittaker have recorded Chapman's songs.
First album (1987-1990)
In 1987, Chapman released his first album, First Hand . The album included the song "Weak Days", which culminated in No. 2 on the charts of Contemporary Christian Music. In 1988, he followed up with his second album, Real Life Conversations, which earned him four more hits, including the No. 1 song "His Eyes". The song, co-written by James Isaac Elliott, won the Record of Contemporary Records of the Year from the Gospel Music Association in 1989. That year, he also won the GMA Award for Best Songwriters of the Year.
After that, Chapman was followed by more albums like More to This Life and By Calls . All of these albums feature several No singles. 1 and was awarded several GMA Awards. The latter also gave his first Chapman Grammy in the category of Best Gospel Pop Album. This achievement strengthens its position in the Christian music scene.
Became mainstream (1992-2005)
In 1992, Chapman made a successful change into a more general audience with his album The Great Adventure. The album garnered Chapman two more Grammy, for the album and for the title of the song video. After Sparrow Records was purchased by EMI/Liberty, they began marketing the album to a wider audience, pushing it to gold status in 1993. The album's success encouraged Chapman to record one of his concerts and release it as The Live Adventure whether as video or CD. This continuation won more Chapman GMA Awards, as well as new awards from American Songwriter for Songwriters and Artists of the Year.
Chapman continues to enjoy success with albums such as Heaven in the Real World â ⬠, Life Sign , and Without Sound . In 2001, with the release of Declaration, Chapman received more attention in the Top 200. The album, along with 2003's All About Love, peaked at the Top 15. Following , All New Things , made it to No. 22.
Chapman has also released four Christmas albums, starting with 1995's The Music of Christmas . In 2003 she released Exclusive Christmas Is All in the Heart exclusively through Hallmark Gold Crown Stores and in 2005 she released All I Really Want for Christmas and finally Joy i> was released in 2012.

Next year (2006-2011)
In 2006, Chapman went on tour to several Asian countries. The website claims its concert for US troops serving in South Korea is the first ever Christian concert for troops in the country, and the concert in Shanghai, China, is "the first public show by a gospel recording artist event in an open city to holders of Chinese passports" , and the third biggest concert in Shanghai that spring. The tour also takes artists to Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Hong Kong, and Singapore. During the same period, his song "The Blessing" reached No. 1. 1 on the Thai radio charts. Song No. 1 is "Dive", "Live Out Loud", "Cinderella", and "Do Everything".
In 2007, Chapman took part in the annual Winter Clock Newsong with Jeremy Camp. For the tour, he brought the band of his sons, Colony House, a tour to play as his supporting band, along with the old keyboardist Scott Sheriff. Chapman also released this Moment , which included hit singles "Cinderella" and "Yours", in October 2007. She was selected for WOW Hits 2009 for Cinderella. He goes on tour with his son, Caleb and Will.
On April 20, 2008, Chapman was awarded a star in Nashville's Walk of Fame for his contribution in Christian music.
On November 3, 2009, Chapman released her seventh album Beauty Will Rise . Many of the songs from this album were inspired by the death of his daughter, Maria Sue. He claims that the songs on the album are his "private psalm". Chapman, his wife and two sons each got a flower tattoo that Mary drew before his death. "Beauty Will Rise", "CHOOSE TO SEE: A Journey of Struggle and Hope", Chapman's new song "Meant to Be", and "re: creation" are dedicated to Mary's memory.
Chapman's album, re: creation , contains six new songs as well as a new version of some of the most memorable songs of the past. Stating that he felt that this album was an opportunity to let everyone know he and his family believed God re-created many beautiful things in their lives after the death of Mary Sue.
New label (2012-present)
In August 2012, Chapman announced his departure from Sparrow Records and his signature to Sony Provident Label Group.
She released her fourth Christmas album, JOY , on October 16, 2012. Disappointing sales for a new release, ending the week after Christmas stood at 36,382.
Chapman released Deep Roots exclusively through Cracker Barrel's Old Country Store, Inc. on March 11, 2013.
In September 2013, Reunion Records released Chapman's eighteenth album (the second with Reunion Records), The Glorious Unfolding , which is also his first studio album in seven years featuring truly original material. The album received critical acclaim, with many critics ranking it among other chart-topping albums. The album reached position 27 on US Billboard 200.
Beginning in September 2014 to April 2015, Chapman hosted the "Sam's Place: Music for the Spirit" concert series at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and performed performances by people like MercyMe, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, and Third Day.
In 2015, Chapman released "Warrior" as the official song for the soundtrack to the War Room .

Personal life
Chapman was a devout Christian and married Mary Beth Chapman (nÃÆ' à © e Chapman). The couple met in the early 1980s at Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana, and married in the fall of 1984.
The couple currently lives in Franklin, Tennessee, and has six children: three biologists - Emily, Caleb and Will - and three daughters - Shaohannah Hope, Stevey Joy and Maria Sue - adopted from China. After a mission trip to Haiti with Mary Beth in 1997, her daughter asked her parents to adopt and initially they refused but then adopted three young girls from China.
Together, Chapman and his wife have written three children's books with the theme of adoption: Shaoey And Dot: Bug Meets Bundle (2004), Shaoey and Dot: The Christmas Miracle (2005), and Shaoey and Dot: A Thunder and Lightning Bug Story illustrated by Jim Chapman (2006). Modern Chapman's tale, Cinderella: The Love of a Daddy and His Princess (2008) recounts and celebrates the blessings of childhood, family, love, and life. Together with Scotty Smith's minister, Chapman has written two books for the mature inspirational market: Speechless (1999), and Recovering the Broken Things (2005). Chapman's song "All About Love" has been featured in an ad for the Fox Celebrity Duets television show.
Chapman and his son recorded "I Love My Lips" under the name "Stevenson" after his eldest son Caleb Stevenson for the 2003 album Veggie Rocks. His son, Caleb and Will perform together as Band Colony House. Chapman recorded a song for the Veggie Tales movie, It's a Meaningful Life , titled "Meant to Be". The Death of Maria Sue Chunxi Chapman
Maria Sue Chunxi Chapman died of injuries and blood loss in a road accident on May 21, 2008. Will Chapman broke into their driveway after she auditioned for music at school and Maria Sue ran to meet him so she could ask him to placing it on the monkey bars. They did not see each other in time and he accidentally bumped into him. She was flown to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. The EMS paramedics tried to wake him up on the way to the hospital, but to no avail. Mary is declared dead on arrival. At the time of Maria's death, the Chapmans were preparing to celebrate Caleb's high school graduation from Christ Presbyterian Academy and Emily's engagement just hours before the accident.
During Mary's funeral ceremonies, families expressed their faith in God and loved each other.
After Maria's accident, Chapman's family talked openly about their loss and the role that faith plays in their healing. They have appeared on Good Morning America , Larry King Live , in People , The 700 Club , and Huckabee . Maria is buried in a flower girl dress she'll wear for Emily's wedding in October. The family placed Maria's ballet, her favorite doll, letters from her brother and sister, and other personal memories to Mary in her coffin. During the funeral, Will kept Mary's safety blanket on her shoulders. Mary is buried at the Williamson Memorial Gardens in Franklin, Tennessee. Chapman's next album, Beauty Will Rise , focuses on Maria's death and its aftermath. Chapman almost quit his singing career because of Maria's death and she almost chose to never sing "Cinderella" again, but soon realized that Mary would want her to continue singing and to honor her memory by singing "Cinderella". The investigation of Mary's death was done by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. However, it was regarded as a tragic accident and no charges were filed. In November 2009, a year after Maria died, Chapman performed at a special concert at Harvest Christian Fellowship. Greg Laurie, Harvest's pastor, suffered the loss of his own son, Christopher Laurie, just months after Chapman's death. Chapman did some songs from Beauty Will Rise .
Since Maria's unexpected death Mary Beth Chapman has written and released a book about the death of her daughter named Choosing to SEE: The Journey of Struggle and Hope .
Honorary Doctorate
On May 7, 2011, Chapman received the Honorary Doctorate of Music from Anderson University and became the speaker for the 2011 class.
Activity and charity
In the late 1990s, Chapman became involved in efforts to prevent youth violence after the shooting of the 1997 Heath High School at his alma mater in West Paducah, Kentucky. Chapman even dedicated a song, "With Hope", from his 1999 album, Speechless , to a family that lost someone in the shootings. In addition, she was asked to sing at a joint funeral held for the three victims. Chapman then gave a memorial concert and joined Charles Colson and others in a video designed to alert teenagers about signs of serious violence planning among peers and encourage them to report the plans told to them.
In 2009, Show Hope completed the construction of Mary's Big House of Hope, a medical treatment center in China that provides holistic care to orphans with special needs. The House of Mary Hope is also dedicated to the memory of the late Maria Sue Chunxi Chapman. Also in 2009, Chapman and his wife received the Children's Award from the Children's Famine Fund charity organization for their work with Show Hope.
In September 2011, Chapman and his wife were awarded the Congressional Angels in the Adoption award by the Congressional Coalition at the Adoption Institute (CCAI) in Washington, D.C.
Chapman has also been promoting the international charity World Vision for at least a decade, serving as a spokesperson for Project Recovery, his program serving the Gulf Coast region in recovery from Hurricane Katrina, in collaboration with the Gospel Music Association. He also sometimes travels to Uganda to help street children's problems, and to help orphan and adoption organizations. He has played in local churches, including KPC (Kampala Pantecostal Church) in Kampala.
